Stephen is CEO of the marketing and management consultancy creativeminds@work.

Stephen has over 25 years of corporate and professional services senior management, marketing and communications experience, with success working across many industries and business sizes.

This experience is combined with strong management and communications skills in consumer, business-to business and community marketing, advertising, promotion, publicity, research, e-commerce and fundraising.

Operating as a consultant from 1999 to 2007 Stephen has applied his skills to the
business development and communications issues confronting Commonwealth Bank, Microsoft, Camp Quality, SOCOG, Kimberly Clark Healthcare, Cincflex and to the start-up and running of the Kings Cross Partnership together with building a new area of consultancy in precinct development and Town Centre Management.

For the past 5 years he has been contracted part-time as General Manager of the Kings Cross Partnership to develop the precincts within the Kings Cross-City Edge district. This task involves lobbying government, dealing with media, recruiting members, servicing members, raising funds and managing administration and projects. These projects include funding, building, managing and selling the Kings Cross area web site www.kingscrossonline.com.au and funding and managing the Kings Cross Food & Wine Festival (now in its third year with 10,000 attending).

Stephen has also been working on precinct development with business groups and councils in Newtown, Paddington and Surry Hills. He is a founder and the current Chair of the Business Alliance of the City of Sydney (BACS) which is a cooperative coalition of the business groups in the precincts of the City of Sydney.

Prior to 1999, Stephen had managed five new business start-ups, including the capital fund raising for four of these ventures. Managing Director and Partner, Stephen started up and built significant direct response agencies for international advertising agencies Grey and Young & Rubicam. This period of agency management included extensive experience with senior management of clients operating in professional services, tourism, retail, hospitality, financial services, e-commerce, healthcare, property development, IT, telecommunications, automotive and city marketing.

Key clients included: AMP, ANA Hotel, Bing Lee, Honda Australia, Hopkins Property Development, Myer Department Stores, Observatory Hotel, Officeworks, Optus, Pharmacia & Upjohn, RACV, World Vision and Melbourne City Marketing.

From 1990 to 1992 Stephen was a marketing and advertising contractor working for a variety of clients, including 3M, Observatory Hotel, ANA Hotel and Kwik Kopy.

From 1987 to 1990 as General Manager, Stephen started up a new internal communications division for the NZI Insurance Group (now CGU Group). Prior to 1987 Stephen was for 15 years in senior ad agency and corporate positions, including three years as Group Account Director with George Paterson Bates direct agency and three years as Marketing Manager of Doubleday Book Clubs.

Community and Cultural Involvement & Development

Stephen is passionate about the betterment of his local community, society and the arts. He is a co-founder and General Manager of the Kings Cross Partnership, a founding member of the ‘KX Police Accountability Community Team’ (KXPACT), a founding member and past Deputy-Chair of the Kings Cross Community Drug Action Team (KXCDAT) and a past President of the 2011 Residents Association.

He is an active board member of the City Edge Initiative Community ‘think tank’ and action group (which includes senior council, police and navy management) and Actors Anonymous (an independent theatre group) - both of which he helped found.

Over the past 5 years Stephen has worked as cast and crew with Darlinghurst Theatre Company and in 2005, 2006 and 2007 as writer, director and actor with the Short & Sweet Theatre Festival in Newtown. Stephen is a member of the Sydney Film Festival and has been assisting Newtown Entertainment Precinct Association (NEPA).

In 2005-07 Stephen produced a feature film as part of a federal government Work-for-the-dole program. This film will premier at the 2007 Sydney Film Festival.
